To be announced
Super Bowl XLVI will be the 46th annual edition of the Super Bowl in American football, and the 42nd annual championship game of the modern-era National Football League (NFL). The game is scheduled to be played on February 5, 2012 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. This will be the first time that the Super Bowl will be played in Indiana, the state best known for hosting the Indianapolis 500, and the city that serves as the home of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) headquarters.
In the United States, the game will be televised nationally by NBC.

Host selection process

Three cities presented bids for the game:
  • On February 19, 2008, the City of Indianapolis, led by Colts owner Jim Irsay and Indianapolis mayor Greg Ballard, officially announced details about their intentions to bid for Super Bowl XLVI. Part of the agreement included a proposal to build a practice facility on the campus of Arsenal Technical High School that would be used for the school's use after the Super Bowl.
  • On March 6, 2008, one month after hosting Super Bowl XLII at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, the second Super Bowl held in the Phoenix metropolitan area, the Arizona Super Bowl Host Committee led by Committee chair Mike Kennedy formally announced their intentions to bid for another one. NFL franchise owners selected the Indianapolis bid at their meeting on May 20 2008.
